When you want to rebuild a Sitecore index.a

Step-by-step guide

  1. Login to the back end of Sitecore. (i.e. http://mysitecoresite/sitecore)
  2. Sitecore 6
    1. Log into Desktop from Sitecore admin login screen
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Click Database
    4. Click Rebuild the Search Index
    5. Check the indexes you want to rebuild
    6. Click Rebuild
  3. Sitecore 7
    1. Log into Desktop from Sitecore admin login screen
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Click Indexing
    4. Click Indexing Manager
    5. Check the indexes you want to rebuild
    6. Click Rebuild
  4. Sitecore 7.2+
    1. Click Desktop
    2. Click the menu button
    3. Click Control Panel
    4. Click Indexing manager under Indexing
    5. Check the indexes you want to rebuild
    6. Click Rebuild

Rebuilding an index should not take very long. If it takes longer, something is probably wrong
